Free Things To Do in Waco Tx

If you’re anything like me, you probably really love spending your weekends out with your family. Sometimes it can be hard to think of free things to do in Waco, Tx, but these are just a few go to’s for me and my family! What could be better than having a day full of fun with the people you love for free?

Take a Walk on the Suspension Bridge

The suspension bridge is downtown in Waco, Tx, and was opened in 1869. In my opinion, it is a must see for Waco! It is also just one of the places you can go to see the Brazos River. There is also a walking path below the bridge and right beside the water if you’re wanting a bit of a longer walk, and sometimes you can see ducks swimming around in the water!

Cameron Park

There are so many options in Cameron Park! With 416 acres, it’s one of the biggest municipal parks in Texas! Cameron Park has several areas for disk golf, countless biking trails, and some of the best views of Waco. If you’re looking for a great view, I recommend lovers leap. Or, visit Jacob’s ladder and climb up 100 zigzagging steps to the top. Another great feature to Cameron Park is the Cameron Park Zoo, but they do charge a fee to enter, so if you’re looking for free options, you might want to stick to other areas of the park.

Wander Around Downtown

Downtown Waco has tons of shops and places to eat, so if you’re a person who enjoys window shopping, this might be for you. As a book lover, my favorite place to go is Fabled Bookshop & Cafe on fourth street. If you’re walking around downtown, you’ll probably be able to see the Alico building as it’s the tallest building in Waco at 282 feet tall! Magnolia Market is also located downtown, so if you’ve been watching Fixer Upper and are dying to see the silos, you should definitely check it out! Not only do they have a bakery and a coffee shop in the market, but there are also food trucks if you’re wanting to try something new.

Swim At Lake Waco

During a Texas summer, nobody wants to be outside unless they’re in water! If you’re looking for something fun and free, swimming is probably your best option! At Lake Waco, you can go to Airport Beach or Twin Bridges for swimming access.

Waco Downtown Farmers Market

Located at 500 Washington Avenue, the Waco Downtown Farmers Market is the perfect place to get fresh local produce every Saturday. They also feature a weekly musician and Handmade Markets where local small businesses can sell their handcrafted items. The Waco Downtown Farmers Market not only accepts WIC and EBT, but they will also double every dollar spent on your Lonestar card up to $30 so you can buy more fruits and vegetables!

Hopefully this list gave you a few good ideas for your next off day! One tip that I will give you for the next time you’re looking for a fun, free day is don’t be afraid to wander around, explore, and get lost a little bit. There are so many great places to see around Waco, and sometimes finding them by accident is the way to go!
